Pushback rack also known as push-back, gravity feed, or glide-in is a variable deep storage application widely used for freezer and cooler storage in high traffic operations. Pushback is a "first in last out" system. Pushback systems have many advantages over other multiple deep storage systems such as deep reach, drive in, and pallet flow. ANE Rack & Shelving, Inc is a leading supplier in the Western U.S. for pushback systems both in new and used, often stocking several used Frazier pushback systems.
Pushback v Deep Reach Pushback storage systems are gravity feed allowing the rear pallets to roll to the front spot when the front pallet is removed. Since the forklift always picks from the front spot, as opposed to waiting for the forklift to "reach" the rear position, labor costs are reduced significantly! Deep Reach is limited to being a 2-deep system while pushback can be 2-5 deep.
Pushback v Drive in Pushback storage systems are selective allowing access to any pick face within the system (at the aisle). Pushback storage systems are two wide as opposed to one wide for drive in using up less frame lines in long runs. For drive in systems, the forklift and operator must enter the system using up more labor, and inevitable creating the opportunity for the forklift to damage the system. For pushback, the forklift accesses the system from the aisle minimizing the opportunity for damage and saving on labor!
Pushback v Pallet flow Cost and maintenance is the biggest advantage pushback has over pallet flow, but these systems are not often compared because they are typically designed for different applications.
Common depths for pushback systems are 2, 3, 4, and 5 deep.
Popular manufacturers for structural pushback systems are Frazier, Lodi Metal Tech, Interlake, Hannibal Material Handling, Steel King, and Konstant.
